Rail freight transport in Germany reached a turnover of 5.7 billion euros in 2020. Within Europe, it provided a total freight transport share of about 13%. Experts estimate that from 2021 to 2023, an annual turnover of around 125 billion euros will be achieved worldwide. In Germany, it is planned to increase the share of rail freight transport to 25% by 2030 in order to reduce the pollution of the environment. To make this possible, further expansion of the infrastructure is necessary.
